Pyrometallurgical method used for the extraction of copper

The copper is extracted from sulphide ore by pyrometallurgy which involves reduction of the concentrated ore at high temperature. This process is a dry process. In this process, the sulphide ore is concentrated by froth floatation process. In this process, the sulphide ore is not concentrated by leaching with dil sulphuric acid.

Pyrometallurgy of copper–nickel–iron sulphide ores: the

Jan 01, 2008 A basic principle of many processes for extracting copper and nickel from sulphide ores is to overlay the molten ore or matte with a lime–silica–iron oxide slag and blow with air or oxygen. Some of the iron present in the ore oxidises and, as a result, partitions to the slag phase, while some of the sulphur is carried off as sulphur dioxide.

Copper Mining and Processing: Processing Copper Ores

Sulfide ores are generally processed using pyrometallurgy, the extraction and purification of metals by processes involving the application of heat. This process uses a series of physical steps and high temperatures to extract and purify copper from copper sulfide ores, in four basic steps: 1) froth flotation, 2) thickening, 3) smelting, and 4

Copper Mining and Extraction Sulfide Ores

Copper can be extracted from its ore by: Underground: sinking a vertical shaft into the Earth to an appropriate depth and driving horizontal tunnels into the ore. Open pit: 90% of ore is mined by this method. Ores near the surface can be quarried after removal of the surface layers.

Pyrometallurgical Process an overview ScienceDirect Topics

Roasting, smelting, and converting are pyrometallurgical process steps that are based on the relative affinities of metals for sulfur and oxygen. A typical process flowsheet is shown in Fig. 1.Iron sulfide is primarily converted to oxide in roasting. When only about half the iron is oxidized during roasting, less nickel and copper sulfides are oxidized.

Copper extraction Wikipedia

Copper extraction refers to the methods used to obtain copper from its ores. The conversion of copper consists of a series of physical and electrochemical processes. Methods have evolved and vary with country depending on the ore source, local environmental regulations, and other factors.. As in all mining operations, the ore must usually be beneficiated (concentrated).
